ReActiv8 is an implanted restorative neurostimulation system designed for selected adults with chronic low back pain associated with multifidus muscle dysfunction.
ReActiv8 stimulates the medial branch of the dorsal ramus to activate the lumbar multifidus muscles. The goal is to restore neuromuscular control in appropriately selected patients with chronic mechanical low back pain and multifidus dysfunction.
Candidacy depends on the diagnosis, prior treatment, examination, imaging when appropriate, medical history, and the expected risk-benefit profile.
Adults with chronic intractable low back pain associated with multifidus dysfunction
Multifidus dysfunction supported by imaging or physiologic testing
Failure of therapies including medication and physical therapy
No current indication for spine surgery
Confirm a mechanical low back pain pattern
Assess for multifidus dysfunction and exclude other dominant pain generators
Implant stimulation leads and pulse generator
Regular stimulation sessions and follow-up
Potential risks include infection, bleeding, lead or device problems, uncomfortable stimulation, pain at the implant site, nerve injury, inadequate improvement, and need for revision or removal.
Results vary, and no procedure can guarantee pain relief or functional improvement.
